Sikaflex®-292i Marine Adhesive – White, 300 ml Cartridge
High-Strength Polyurethane Bonding for Marine Applications
Sikaflex®-292i is a one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane adhesive developed for structural joints in marine construction that experience high dynamic stresses. Supplied in a convenient 300 ml white cartridge, it is designed for demanding bonding applications where a strong, flexible adhesive joint and reliable substrate adhesion are important.
The product has a paste-like, non-sag consistency that helps it remain in position during application. Its gap-filling properties and good mechanical strength make it suitable for a range of marine bonding applications when the substrates, joint design and preparation meet Sika’s requirements.
Sikaflex®-292i can be painted, is solvent-free with very low VOC, and is Wheelmark approved. Sika also states that the product meets the International Maritime Organization’s low-flame-spread requirements. Always check the current manufacturer’s documentation for the applicable conditions and approval details.
Key Features and Benefits
1. High-Strength Marine Bonding
Designed for structural joints in marine construction that experience high dynamic stresses. It can be used for suitable bonding applications when the substrate and joint design are compatible with the product specification.
2. One-Component Polyurethane Formula
The adhesive cures through exposure to atmospheric moisture. It is supplied ready for application without mixing separate components, subject to the manufacturer’s preparation and application instructions.
3. Gap-Filling Properties
Its paste-like consistency and gap-filling characteristics help accommodate suitable joint geometries. The permissible gap and joint dimensions must be determined from Sika’s technical guidance.
4. Non-Sag Application
The product has very good non-sag properties, helping it stay in place on suitable surfaces during application rather than readily flowing under gravity.
5. Paintable Finish
Sikaflex®-292i can be painted where the paint system is compatible. Follow Sika’s guidance on paint compatibility, timing and preparation before applying any coating.
6. Solvent-Free and Very Low VOC
Sika describes the product as solvent-free and very low in volatile organic compounds (VOC). Follow the current SDS and workplace requirements for handling and ventilation.
7. Wheelmark Approved
The product is listed by Sika as Wheelmark approved and meets the manufacturer’s stated low-flame-spread requirements. Verify the applicable approval documentation for your project and jurisdiction.
Recommended Marine Applications
Sikaflex®-292i is designed for suitable structural bonding applications in marine construction, including bonding compatible:
- Metals, particularly aluminium, including anodised finishes
- Metal primers and two-component paint coatings
- Ceramic materials
- Glass-reinforced plastic (GRP)
- ABS plastics and other compatible substrates
Potential uses include selected boat and yacht structural bonding assemblies where the adhesive is specified and the joint design is suitable.
Important: This product is a structural marine adhesive, not a substitute for every marine sealant, deck caulking compound or mechanical fastener. Do not use it for a critical structural joint without verifying the design requirements and obtaining appropriate technical guidance.

Surface Preparation and Application
Sikaflex®-292i is intended for experienced professional users. The quality of the bond depends on the substrate, preparation, joint design, application conditions and curing process.
- Review the technical data sheet and SDS. Confirm the product is suitable for the materials being joined and the operating conditions.
- Prepare the surfaces. Clean and prepare each substrate according to Sika’s instructions. Use specified cleaners, activators or primers only where required.
- Check compatibility. Test adhesion on the actual substrates and verify material compatibility before starting the full application.
- Prepare the cartridge. Use a compatible dispensing gun and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for opening and fitting the nozzle.
- Apply within the working time. Apply and assemble the components according to the specified procedure, observing the product’s open time.
- Allow the joint to cure. Protect the assembly and allow sufficient curing time before loading or putting it into service.
- Paint only when appropriate. Verify paint compatibility and timing using the manufacturer’s instructions.
Do not treat skin time or open time as the time required for complete curing. Cure speed depends on environmental conditions and joint geometry.
Storage and Handling
- Store the cartridge according to the temperature and shelf-life conditions on the packaging and current technical data sheet.
- Keep the product properly sealed until use and protect it from contamination.
- Use the personal protective equipment and controls specified in the SDS.
- Avoid unnecessary contact with skin and eyes.
- Follow the SDS for first aid, spill management and disposal.
- Check the manufacturing date, shelf life and condition of the packaging before use.
Why Choose Sikaflex®-292i?
For suitable marine structural bonding projects, Sikaflex®-292i combines polyurethane adhesive technology, good mechanical strength, gap-filling properties and a non-sag consistency. Its paintability, low-VOC formulation and Wheelmark approval may also be relevant to specific marine construction requirements.
The correct choice still depends on the materials being bonded, the forces acting on the joint, the project specification and the applicable manufacturer instructions.
